An expert assessment of how your home’s technology works today, where it could work better, and a clear, practical plan for getting there. No products to choose. No pressure. Just honest advice from a local Cheshire team.
Most people come to us with a feeling rather than a shopping list. The WiFi drops in the back bedroom. The alarm is getting old. The new extension needs to work as well as the rest of the house. You do not need to know which products you need. You need someone who understands how your home should work, and who can tell you honestly what is worth doing and what is not. That is what the Home Technology Review is for.
Free for planning and advice. Repairs, fault-finding and work on existing systems are quoted separately.
Why have a Home Technology Review?
Homes grow in layers. A camera added here, a router replaced there, a streaming box, a smart speaker, a thermostat, each bought at a different time for a different reason. Individually they work. Together they often do not. The result is a home that feels more complicated than it should.
Common situations we see:
- disconnected systems that do not talk to each other
- WiFi that struggles exactly where you need it most
- security that has quietly aged out of date
- rooms that never quite came together
- no overall plan for what to do next
A review steps back and looks at the whole picture before any money is spent. It is the difference between buying products and making decisions. You come away knowing what your home needs, in what order, and roughly what it should cost, so the next pound you spend is the right one.
What happens during the review?
The review is a structured conversation, usually at your home so we can see the building and how you live in it. There is no script to sit through and nothing to sign. We are there to understand your home and your priorities.
We cover:
- the technology you already have, and how well it is serving you
- how the household actually lives, room by room
- your future plans, whether that is a renovation, an extension, a move or the next few years
- the things that frustrate you day to day
- the budget you have in mind, so recommendations stay realistic
- the layout and structure of the property
By the end we understand your home well enough to give advice you can trust.
What you’ll receive
After the visit you receive a clear set of recommendations you can act on at your own pace, with or without us. It is yours to keep.
- prioritised recommendations, ordered by what matters most
- a technology roadmap for now, next and later
- honest budget guidance for each stage
- observations on your home security
- home networks and WiFi recommendations
- entertainment opportunities, from multi room audio to a dedicated home cinema
- energy and lighting suggestions where they add real value
No exaggerated promises and nothing you do not need. If something is already working well, we will tell you to leave it alone. If the right next step is smart home automation with Control4, we will explain why it fits the home before any product is discussed.
What the review covers, and what it does not
The Home Technology Review is free because it is a planning visit. We look at the property, listen to how you live in it, and give you a written set of recommendations you can act on with us or without us. It is advice, and the advice is yours to keep.
Anything hands-on is separate work and is charged for. That includes fault-finding on a system that has stopped working, repairs, reconfiguring equipment someone else installed, and taking over a system another company has walked away from. We are glad to do all of it, and we quote it before we start, so you always know the cost in advance.
If you are not sure which you need, tell us what is happening and we will say honestly which it is before anyone gets in a van.
Ideal for
Whatever stage your home is at, a review helps you make the right call at the right time.
New builds
Get the wiring, network and infrastructure right before the walls close.
Renovations
Fold technology into the project rather than bolting it on afterwards.
Extensions
Make the new space work as well as the rest of the home.
Existing smart homes
Bring disconnected systems under one sensible plan.
Recently purchased homes
Understand what you have inherited and what to improve.
High value properties
Security, resilience and comfort designed around the home.
Why Cheshire Smart Homes?
Good advice is only worth having if the people giving it can stand behind it. We design, install and support every system ourselves, which means the team that recommends something is the same team that fits it and looks after it for years afterwards. We are local, so we know the area and the homes in it.
We are a certified Control4 installer and a registered Ajax Systems partner, and we hold to recognised UK standards on the work that warrants them. We do not chase awards to put on a page, and we will not quote numbers we cannot prove. What we offer is straightforward: experienced people, proper installation and ongoing support, from a Cheshire team that answers the phone.
- certified Control4 installer
- registered Ajax Systems partner
- professional design and installation

Consultancy intake
The Home Technology Review works best when we understand the property, project stage and priorities before the first conversation. The short intake below adds that context without changing the locked HTR page logic or schema.
Investment guidance is handled within the review conversation, where scope and phasing can be discussed properly. No fixed price bands are published on this page.
